To be classified organic, the coconuts must be wild and sourced from pristine forest floors. Moreover, the nut supply must originate from virgin rainforests that support biodiversity and rainforest preservation. Over half of our suppliers are women, as coconut harvesting is less physically demanding than other crops. They express that, for the first time, they have the opportunity to monetize their land, a property they have always owned due to the matrilineal system of the Tolai people in New Britain. Employment remains steady at approximately 40 employees. The coconuts utilized by the factory serve as the primary income source for over 200 local farming families who have long-term agreements for wild nuts with NIUGINI ORGANICS.
